Screen Resolution Settings, How to remove lower scroll bars from your browser...

For those of you who want to view your computer in a whole new light, please follow me! If your monitor is set to a resolution of 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 you've been missing out on the big picture!
Today's monitors and computer video cards are much more capable of true rich colors and higher resolutions so, why miss out.

Most people are already aware and know these simple settings, a few of you still live in the dark ages! Most of you buy a new computer, take it out of the box, set it up and go, never knowing the difference.

I can say this because I use to do in home computer support and I can tell you that 9 out of 10 computer systems that I have worked on had low resolution settings and to boot, most of the screen area on the monitor had not been adjusted to the full size of the display area, shame!

It's no ones fault, they just didn't Know. I would say to the customer, "Your graphics look dull and grainy". The reply always was, "The man at the computer store said this was a very good system but, you know how salesmen are."

After a few simple settings the customer could not believe what he or she was missing, not to mention the reduced eye strain and rich colors. Oh ya, No More Scroll Bars! OK, enough of the bla, bla, bla!

Lets get started:
Go to your desktop, (that's the screen that appears after your computer boots in to windows) choose an area on the screen that is empty, "No Icons" next, Right click and choose properties, this will open the Display Properties window.

Select the tab that says Settings. Here you will have a few choices. Please view example graphic.

Color, choose between High Color (16 Bit) and True Color (32 Bit). The choices your computer will have will depend on your video card.

Next, Screen Area, This is the setting that is most important. Just slide that baby to, 1024 x 768 and select apply!
Note: lets not get crazy here, the higher settings above 1024 x 768 will cause your icons on your desktop to be very small, and your video card might not handle it to begin with unless you know you have a higher end card installed.
Moving on, after you select apply, click OK. Your computer will ask you if you want to keep these settings, Select YES! You may want to restart your computer at this point.

Ok back on the desk top, use the settings on the front of your monitor to adjust the width and height, try to get as much screen area that you can. that's it, your done!

Hey, NO MORE SCROLL BARS, Richer colors, enjoy your NEW VIEW!

LCD vs. CRT monitors! (LCD = Liquid Crystal Display)
(CRT = well you know, the big jobs that take up a lot of space on your desk top!)
I get asked this question all the time, "Which monitor should I use?" My answer is always; "It depends on what you're going to do on your computer!"

Hey, don't even get me started about dot pitch! Don't you worry, i'll stick a link in here somewhere that will help clear all of these issues up. :)

Let me say this, its ones preference what he or she uses to view data on ones computer but if you are doing any type of graphical design, Cad, photo editing and so on, you need to see true colors! I recommend sticking to the CRT Monitor.

Ooooooh, before I forget, no matter what type of display monitor you are using, LOAD THE DRIVERS that came with the thing!!!
Don't rely on the plug -n- play setting on your "Confuser" as I call it, to automatically find your display, and even if it does list your monitor type in the settings menu, you may be missing out on some of the factory settings and goodies that shipped with it!

We're not done yet! After you get all of your ducks in a row, now you need to tweak the thing! You know, get the best color, brightness, contrast, gamma and so on. I'm tired, how about you? This is nuts right? Didn't even think of this stuff!

Case in point example, my system: I use a ATI Radeon X1900 XTX, 512 meg graphics card and a View Sonic 21" CRT monitor, all toll, a little over $1,100 big ones for the video card and monitor.
You would think that after all that cash, I would have to do nothing, Wrong! Heck, I expected this thing to see into the future, or at least mow my lawn or something! Yes my system found my monitor and yes, the display looked good but, after I tweaked some of the settings I talked about above, this thing was smokin! "I mean night and day different!" Oh yah, grass still needs cut and I can't tell your fortune, yet!

The point i'm trying to make here is that you should look a little deeper into your settings to see what type improvements can be made to get the most for your investment. You'll be Surprised what you dig up!

Ok, you're asking, "why all the hot air?" Well i'll tell you. Today's monitors are very good products and no matter how much you spend or little for that matter, when it comes to display on your computer, and how things look, it's only as good as how things are set up. I can sit here and design-high end graphics and nice web pages all day but when it's viewed on a display that hasn't had any Attention, who knows what it looks like.
Then the email starts, we won't go there right now!

In closing, there's always something on a computer you can plug in, adjust, screw in or even screw up, Now have at it and enjoy!
If you enjoyed my hot air, you can e me @ webmaster, I don't mind at all.

Oh, almost forgot. Here's that link I talked about: CRT vs. LCD Monitors
